The Borgo Diffuso Project aims to create a new tourism model, promoted and supported by the community, where each accommodation service is organized in order to develop local economy. It is similar to the “Albergo Diffuso”. So we are trying to recover the abandoned or not always used houses during the year, turning them into accommodation activities.

The difference, compared to the Albergo Diffuso, is that it is not a single manager to benefit from the activity profits. All incomes are distributed among the owners of the accommodation services and among the members of the community, actively working in the management and maintenance of the houses. This aims to stop depopulation and to support local commercial activities, relying on the resources of the beautiful territory surrounding the village of San Michele in Teverina.

The Borgo diffuso is therefore a project of sustainable tourism development, related to natural beauties, wine and food gastronomy products, and the territory, aiming to reduce the continuing depopulation of theseareas that is leading to the disappearance of the San Michele community.
RIQUALIFICAZIONE VECCHIE ABITAZIONI
Come tutti i Borghi Italiani semi spopolati, San Michele in Teverina è caratterizzato dalla presenza di numerose case abbandonate, o seconde case poco utilizzate dai proprietari durante l'anno.
Il progetto del Borgo Diffuso punta al recupero ed alla trasformazione di queste abitazioni in attività ricettive extra alberghiere.
COINVOLGIMENTO DELLA COMUNITÀ
I membri della comunità di San Michele si occupano della gestione degli immobili, mentre le associazioni locali hanno il compito di organizzare e gestire le attività che gli ospiti delle strutture potranno svolgere durante il loro soggiorno (trekking, yoga, ciclismo e massaggi).

Questa particolare forma organizzativa punta ad uno sviluppo sostenibile dell'economia locale, ed alla creazione di un modello turistico finalizzato alla promozione del territorio.​

RECUPERO DEL TERRITORIO
Tra le attività svolte dal Borgo Diffuso di San Michele c'è l'organizzazione di eventi di vario genere, finalizzati alla raccolta di fondi da reinvestire sul territorio (es. sistemazione dei percorsi nella Valle dei Calanchi, realizzazione di aree pic-nic ecc...).

Questi interventi, che coinvolgono la comunità dalla raccolta dei fondi fino alla realizzazione e manutenzione, puntano a migliorare l'offerta turistica locale.
Promozione enogastronomia e territorio
Il progetto del Borgo Diffuso nasce dalla volontà di dare vita a nuove dinamiche di sviluppo locali, sostenibili ed in sintonia con il territorio e con la comunità locale. Il profitto diventa quindi non un obiettivo, ma un mezzo per raggiungere uno scopo ben più importante, tutelare il nostro territorio e sostenere la comunità locale.
